TNI Commander Urges Public Not to Be Provoked by Hoaxes on Social Media
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has urged the public not to be provoked by hoaxes circulating on social media in recent times, especially ahead of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.
The appeal was conveyed by the Commander after a meeting with the leadership of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) which discussed various strategic issues at the parliamentary complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday.
“I appeal to the entire public not to be easily provoked by the circulation of news on social media whose truth cannot be accounted for and which causes public discomfort,” he said.
The Commander asked the public not to readily believe information whose truth cannot be verified. The public was also asked to carry out their activities as usual.
The TNI, General Agus added, has been and will continue to conduct security patrols in all regions to maintain a sense of safety in the community. In this regard, the TNI is also coordinating with the police and other elements of society.
“Moreover, we will soon celebrate Independence Day. Let us welcome the celebration of the anniversary of Indonesia’s independence with joy, and I am responsible for the security of the public in regions throughout Indonesia,” he said.
