TNI Commander Reports Harvest Results of Sugarcane, Rice, and Soybean Programmes to Prabowo
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto has reported to President Prabowo Subianto on the production results of the food security programme run by the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI). Three commodities were planted: sugarcane, rice and soybeans.
“With your permission, Mr President, in follow-up to your instructions, the TNI has carried out integrated assistance: the Air Force on sugarcane, the Navy on soybeans, and the Army on rice,” said Agus Subiyanto at the TNI Grand Harvest event in Malang Regency, East Java, on Friday (17/7/2026).
In the sugarcane sector, the Air Force, working in synergy with Gula Nusantara and farmers’ associations, is supporting 236,048 hectares during the 2026 harvest season, with potential production of 18.386 million tonnes of sugarcane. This is equivalent to 1.36 million tonnes of sugar, contributing 45.05% towards the 2026 national sugar target.
At Abdulrachman Saleh Air Base alone, 800.5 hectares are ready for harvest, with an estimated yield of 72,045 tonnes.
“Sugarcane downstreaming also produces molasses, industrial and pharmaceutical bioethanol, organic fertiliser and other derivative products that add value to the national economy,” he said.
Furthermore, in the soybean sector, the Navy supported 2,432 hectares with total production of 3,676 tonnes. This was spread across six regions, contributing 0.35% towards the national soybean production target for 2026.
“In order to increase production by June 2026, new land has been opened on Navy-owned land and land managed by Naval Regional Commands (Kodaeral) covering 3,110 hectares in seven regions, with an estimated yield of 5,287 tonnes. This effort will strengthen food self-sufficiency and reduce import dependence,” said the TNI Commander.
Meanwhile, in the rice sector, the Army supported harvests in July 2026 covering 479,659 hectares.
“From January to June 2026, the total harvested area reached 6.26 million hectares with production of 19.2 million tonnes of rice, or 55.24% of the national rice production target for 2026,” he said.
According to the TNI Commander, this bountiful harvest is proof that the military is present to strengthen food security and self-sufficiency. He said the achievement also stemmed from synergy between the TNI, the government, state-owned enterprises, the business community, academics and society.
