TNI Commander Orders Level-1 Readiness to Anticipate Impacts of Middle East Conflict

Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) Commander General Agus Subiyanto has issued a telegram to his subordinates ordering Level-1 readiness to anticipate domestic developments arising from the conflict in the Middle East region. The TNI says the move is in line with its core duties.

The instruction is contained in Telegram from the TNI Commander No. TR/283/2026. The letter was signed by the TNI Commander’s Assistant for Operations, Lieutenant General Bobby Rinal Makmun, on 1 March 2026.

Seven orders addressed to all TNI ranks are as follows:

  1. The Panglima Komando Utama Operasi (Pangkotamaops) is to ready personnel and main weapon systems (alutsista). They are also ordered to conduct patrols at strategic vital objects and economic centers. The patrols should cover airports, sea or river ports, railway stations, bus terminals, and critical facilities such as the offices of the state electricity company (PLN).

  2. The National Air Defence Command (Kohanudnas) is ordered to carry out early detection and continuous aerial surveillance around the clock (24 hours).

  3. The Strategic Intelligence Agency (Bais) is asked to instruct Indonesian defence attaches in affected countries to inventory and map the status of Indonesian nationals (WNI). It is also asked to prepare evacuation plans if required, in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Indonesian diplomatic representatives in the relevant states.

  4. The Jaya Regional Command (Kodam Jaya) is ordered to intensify patrols at various strategic vital objects and around the embassy district in the DKI Jakarta area to maintain a conducive security environment.

  5. The TNI Intelligence Unit (Satuan Intelijen TNI) is asked to carry out early detection and prevention of security disturbances at strategic vital objects and embassy areas.

  6. All central executing bodies (Balakpus) are asked to implement readiness at their respective units.

  7. Any developments on the ground must be reported immediately to the TNI Commander.

Mabes TNI explains the telegram

The TNI Headquarters provided an explanation for issuing the telegram to all ranks. The TNI says the measure is undertaken in accordance with its core duty of protecting the nation.

“As mandated by the TNI Act, one of the core duties of the TNI is to protect the nation and all of Indonesia’s territory from threats and disturbances to the integrity of the nation and state,” said Kapuspen TNI Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah to reporters, on Sunday (8/3/2026).

Aulia ensured that the TNI will perform its duties professionally and remain ready within its capabilities. He noted that the TNI is prepared to anticipate the impacts arising from the United States-Israel and Iran war.

“The TNI serves professionally and responsively, maintained by continually preserving its capacity and strength to stay operational, and to be on standby to anticipate developments in international, regional, and national strategic environments,” he stated.

“Thus the TNI must possess high operational readiness, one aspect of which is conducting routine checks and drills,” he added.
