TNI Clarifies Incident of Aide Being Refused at Jogja Marathon
The Indonesian Army has clarified a viral video showing a senior officer being stopped while accompanying a high-ranking officer during the Mandiri Jogja Marathon 2026 on Sunday, 21 June 2026. The officer in question is the Commander of the 072/Pamungkas Military Resort, Brigadier General Yuniar Dwi Hantono.
Head of Army Public Relations Brigadier General Donny Pramono stated that the incident involving the aide being stopped by race officials was a misunderstanding. The video had circulated widely on social media and was uploaded by several Instagram accounts, including @eventlari.id.
“We can explain that the incident was a misunderstanding on the ground between the track officials and the aide to the Commander of Military Resort 072/Pamungkas during the activity,” Donny said in a written statement on Monday, 22 June 2026.
The officer was participating in the marathon event with his wife, one of his children, and his aide. Donny confirmed that they were all registered participants and held official tickets from the event organiser. As such, they were issued BIBs, or participant identity numbers, which are required to be worn during the marathon. However, the aide’s BIB fell off along the crowded route.
“During the event, it is suspected that the participant number came loose while on the busy track, causing a misunderstanding during the official’s inspection,” Donny explained. This led to the marshals stopping the aide, who was running while documenting the brigadier general during the race.
The incident was captured on social media, showing Brigadier General Yuniar briefly arguing with officials as he was unhappy that his aide had been stopped mid-race. Following the incident, the organisers, the event organiser, and the Commander of Military Resort 072/Pamungkas communicated directly and clarified the matter. “All parties understand that the incident was purely a technical issue on the ground and it has been resolved amicably,” Donny said.
The Army expressed its appreciation for the organisers’ professional work in maintaining order and enforcing the applicable rules during the race. In light of the incident, Donny urged the public to view the event wisely and not be misled by unconfirmed facts. “We hope the public can see this incident proportionally and not link it to other matters that are inconsistent with the actual facts,” he stated.
