TNI chief to visit Philippines

JAKARTA: The Indonesian Military (TNI) chief Gen. Endriartono Sutarto plans to visit the Philippines from Nov. 9 to Nov. 12 in a bid to improve relations between the two countries' militaries.

TNI spokesman Maj. Gen. Kohirin Suganda said on Sunday that the talks would be particularly focussed on ways of boosting cooperation to curb terrorism.

"Terrorism is a global crime that requires cooperation with other countries, particularly with members of ASEAN," Kohirin said, referring to the Association of South East Asian Nations.

He added that regional cooperation in curbing terrorism must be intensified as terror threats now came in various forms. -- Antara
