Deputy Chairman of Commission I of the DPR RI, Sukamta, has expressed profound condolences over the death of a TNI member serving in the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), Corporal Rico Pramudia (31), due to an Israeli attack in Lebanon. Sukamta has urged the UN to evaluate the protection of UNIFIL forces.

“We extend our deepest condolences over the passing of the TNI’s finest soldier who was part of the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon. This sacrifice is a tangible manifestation of Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining world peace, in line with the constitutional mandate,” Sukamta told reporters on Saturday (25/4/2026).

Sukamta stated that Corporal Rico’s death must be a serious concern for all parties. In particular, he noted that the UNIFIL headquarters has become a target of attacks by conflicting parties.

“This incident must be a serious concern for all parties. The attack that occurred in the UNIFIL operational area indicates that the situation on the ground has experienced significant escalation, thereby placing peacekeeping forces at increasingly high risk,” he said.

Sukamta emphasised that protection for peacekeeping personnel must not be neglected. He stated that protection must be the top priority.

“We view that protection for UN personnel must be the top priority and must not be ignored by any party, including in the dynamics of the conflict involving Israel and other actors in the region,” he said.

This PKS politician also encouraged the UN to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the protection mechanisms for UNIFIL peacekeeping forces. According to him, this is to align with the realities of threats on the ground.

“We urge the United Nations to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the mandate and protection mechanisms for UNIFIL forces, to align with the evolving threat realities on the ground. In addition, transparent and accountable investigative steps are needed regarding this incident, to ensure clarity and accountability,” he explained.

Sukamta encouraged the Indonesian government to conduct a comprehensive review, particularly regarding security aspects and troop deployment patterns.

“The Indonesian government needs to conduct a comprehensive review of security aspects, readiness, and troop deployment patterns in peacekeeping missions, without reducing Indonesia’s commitment as an active contributor to maintaining global stability,” he said.

“Every fallen soldier must serve as a reminder that peace-keeping efforts require a strong system, adequate protection, and collective commitment from the entire international community,” he added.

As is known, a TNI member serving in the UNIFIL peacekeeping force in Lebanon died due to an attack in Lebanon. TNI soldier Corporal Rico Pramudia (31) had been receiving treatment after sustaining severe injuries from an attack at the end of last month.

“UNIFIL regrets the passing of Corporal Rico Pramudia today, who was severely injured due to a projectile explosion at the base where he was stationed in Adchit Al Qusayr on the night of 29 March,” stated UNIFIL on its X account @UNIFIL_, on Friday (24/4).

UNIFIL reported that Corporal Rico passed away while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Beirut due to the injuries he sustained. UNIFIL extended condolences to Rico’s family and Indonesia.

“UNIFIL extends its deepest condolences to the family and friends of Corporal Pramudia, as well as to the Indonesian National Armed Forces, the Government, and the people of the Republic of Indonesia, over this tragic and irreplaceable loss,” it said.
