Jakarta (ANTARA) – Two Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) cadets have achieved international recognition after completing their education and being commissioned as junior officers from two prestigious US military academies, West Point and Annapolis.

According to a release from the Indonesian Embassy in Washington (KBRI) received on Monday, one of these achievements was secured by Second Lieutenant Infantry Roosevelt Purba, who made history as the first Indonesian graduate of the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point.

Roosevelt graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Security Studies, earning the distinction of cum laude.

USMA, established in 1802, is renowned as the oldest and most prestigious military academy in the United States, focusing on character development, leadership, discipline, and physical and mental resilience.

Similarly, Second Lieutenant (Navy) Hikmal Fikri Wildani Nurdiansyah successfully completed his studies at the United States Naval Academy (USNA) in Annapolis, Maryland.

Hikmal’s participation was part of a programme initiated by President Prabowo Subianto during his tenure as Defence Minister, sending TNI cadets to leading global military academies.

Over four years of study, Hikmal studied alongside 1,058 other cadets, including international participants from various countries.

Indonesian Ambassador to the United States, Indroyono Soesilo, praised the success of the two young officers, stating it demonstrates TNI’s global human resource competitiveness.

‘The achievements of Second Lieutenant Roosevelt Purba and Second Lieutenant (Navy) Hikmal Fikri Wildani Nurdiansyah not only reflect the intellectual and physical quality of TNI officers capable of competing on the global stage but also strengthen Indonesia’s defence diplomacy posture in the eyes of the world,’ Soesilo said.

He added that these accomplishments serve as a professional bridge, further strengthening TNI-US military relations through the exchange of knowledge, doctrines, and modern military tactics.

The success of Roosevelt and Hikmal is considered strategically significant for Indonesia-US relations, particularly in bolstering defence cooperation.

The achievements of the two junior officers are also expected to inspire future TNI officers to continue making international strides while contributing to the strengthening of TNI and national sovereignty.
