TNI BAIS Officers Involved in Andrie Yunus Case, Here Are Their Initials
The TNI Military Police Centre has detained four members of the Strategic Intelligence Agency (BAIS) TNI suspected of perpetrating the acid attack on Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Missing Persons and Victims of Violence (Kontras).
The four suspected perpetrators were detained at the Military Police Command of the Jakarta Military Region (Pomdam Jaya). According to the TNI Puspom Commander, Major General TNI Yusri Nuryanto, the suspects were directly handed over by the BAIS Headquarters Detachment to the TNI Puspom on the morning of Wednesday, 18 March 2026.
“This morning I received the individuals suspected of carrying out the assault on Andrie Yunus,” said Yusri Nuryanto during a press conference at TNI Headquarters, Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon, 18 March 2026.
Yusri explained that the four detained members come from the air force and navy. They are respectively initialled NDP, SL, BHW, and ES.
He detailed that NDP holds the rank of captain, the highest rank in the group of first officers. SL and BHW are both first lieutenants, one rank below captain. Meanwhile, ES still holds the status of second sergeant, the lowest non-commissioned officer rank in the Indonesian military structure.
Yusri stated that two of the four TNI members acted as the executors, namely the perpetrators of the acid splashing who were captured on CCTV. The roles of the other two members are still unknown. Yusri said the investigation process is ongoing. “Because they were only handed over this morning,” he added.
Although they have been detained, the four BAIS members have not yet been designated as suspects. The TNI still needs to conduct further investigations regarding evidence, the motive for the acid attack, and various factors that strengthen that these four individuals are indeed the perpetrators who attacked Andrie Yunus.
Yusri asked the public to trust and give the TNI time to resolve this case. “So when it comes to when (suspect designation), I answer as soon as possible. Give us time and be assured we will convey it transparently,” he said.
Andrie Yunus was doused with acid while on Jalan Salemba I-Talang, Central Jakarta, on Thursday night, 12 March 2026. Andrie was splashed with a dangerous solution by two unidentified individuals. The two rode a motorcycle approaching from the opposite direction to Andrie.
The corrosive chemical liquid affected the right side of Andrie’s body, such as his eye, face, chest, and hand. Part of the victim’s clothing also melted due to the acid. Medical examination results show Andrie suffered serious burns covering 24 percent. Andrie is currently undergoing treatment at the National Central General Hospital Dr. Cipto Mangunkusumo (RSCM).
