TNI Assures Professional Investigation into Andrie Yunus Acid Attack Case
JAKARTA — The Indonesian Military (TNI) headquarters has assured the public that its investigation into the acid attack case against Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of the Commission for Disappeared Persons and Victims of Violence (KontraS), is proceeding professionally.
“The TNI works professionally and transparently. We will see the results of the internal investigation we are conducting,” said Maj. Gen. Aulia Dwi Nasrullah, Head of the TNI Information Centre, when met at the TNI Media Centre in Kramat, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (17 March 2026).
Aulia stated that the TNI’s internal investigation has been underway since the incident occurred. The internal investigation serves as a response to issues circulating among the public regarding the involvement of state apparatus.
The senior TNI officer also emphasised that this investigation was an initiative of the institution itself, not a result of coordination with the police.
“That’s correct—it’s purely from our own initiative. Yes, we did this in response to the issues that developed in society,” he added.
Andrie Yunus, Deputy Coordinator of KontraS, fell victim to an acid attack by unknown assailants on Thursday (12 March 2026) evening in the Senen area of Central Jakarta.
As a result of the attack, Andrie sustained burn wounds on several parts of his body, including his eyes, face, chest, and hands.
Dimas Bagus Arya, Coordinator of KontraS’s Board of Workers, stated that the incident occurred after Andrie had finished recording a podcast at the Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation (YLBHI) office in Menteng, Jakarta.
Due to the acid attack, Andrie Yunus has been undergoing intensive treatment at Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital.
