TNI and US Army Conduct Night Flight Training to Sharpen Pilot Skills

Jakarta (ANTARA) - The TNI and the US Army held night flight training for helicopter pilots to sharpen combat and manoeuvring skills at the TNI Army Combat Training Centre in Martapura, South Sumatra, on Wednesday (2/9).

According to an official press release from the TNI Headquarters Press Centre released on Friday, this training is part of the annual Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026 Joint Combined Exercise.

During this exercise, TNI and US Army pilots utilised the same helicopter model, the AH-64 Apache, to undergo various combat simulations. The training included tactical flight and manoeuvres, as well as target engagement within operational scenarios, specifically focusing on the ability to operate the AH-64 Apache helicopter at night.

The entire series of exercises was confirmed to have proceeded safely and smoothly. The TNI also ensured that all personnel adhered to established safety standards during the training to maintain the safety of both soldiers and helicopters.

Through this training, it is expected that pilots from both sides can sharpen their skills and exchange ideas regarding effective and proficient flying techniques.

For the record, the 2026 SGS event involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries. They have arrived in Indonesia to test troop operational readiness, defence diplomacy, and capabilities in facing various security challenges.

The Commander of the TNI, General Agus Subiyanto, stated that Super Garuda Shield is an annual exercise held across various regions of Indonesia from 31 August to 11 September 2026.

“Super Garuda Shield is held every year in Indonesia. There are 21 countries participating this year. The total number of personnel training is 4,743 people, covering 12 different training modules,” Agus said in Bandung, West Java, on Monday (31/8).

The 21 participating nations include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.

Agus noted that the exercises are being conducted in Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, the TNI Army Combat Training Centre in Baturaja, South Sumatra, and Nunukan, North Kalimantan. The exercises are scheduled to conclude in Jakarta on 11 September 2026.
