TNI and Soldiers from Partner Nations Strengthen Evacuation Capabilities via SGS
Jakarta (ANTARA) - TNI soldiers and military personnel from the US, Japan, Australia, and Canada sharpened their technical aerial evacuation capabilities by conducting Air Medevac exercises during the Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026 Multinational Joint Exercise at the TNI AD Combat Training Centre, Martapura, South Sumatra, on Wednesday (2/9).
In an official press release issued by the TNI Information Centre on Thursday, it was explained that this activity aims to enhance the capabilities of soldiers while strengthening bilateral relations between Indonesia and its partner nations.
During this exercise, personnel executed an evacuation scenario involving a soldier wounded during ongoing combat.
“Subsequently, the patient was transferred using a Black Hawk helicopter to a more comprehensive referral health facility, while receiving continuous medical care during the journey,” stated the press release from the TNI Information Centre.
The evacuation and medical handling process proceeded smoothly and safely. The TNI ensured that all activities were conducted in accordance with applicable safety standards to ensure the protection of all personnel.
Through this activity, the TNI hopes that the capabilities for medical evacuation and handling of soldiers can further improve and be implemented during war operations or humanitarian missions.
It was noted that the Air Medevac activity at SGS 2026 serves as evidence that the TNI is not only preparing combat capabilities but also prioritising the health protection of its soldiers.
The 2026 SGS event involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries. They have arrived in Indonesia to test troop operational readiness, defence diplomacy, and the ability to face various security challenges.
“Super Garuda Shield is held annually in Indonesia. There are 21 countries present this year. The total number of personnel training is 4,743 people, covering 12 different training modules,” said Agus in Bandung on Monday (31/8).
The 21 participating nations include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam.
Agus stated that the exercises are being conducted in Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung, the TNI AD Combat Training Centre in Baturaja, South Sumatra, and Nunukan, North Kalimantan. The exercises are scheduled to conclude in Jakarta on 11 September 2026.
