TNI Ammunition Depot in Madiun Explodes: 1 Soldier Killed, 6 Injured
An explosion at the Army Central Ammunition Depot (Gupusmu) II of the Army Equipment Centre (Puspalad) on the Madiun-Surabaya highway in Saradan District, Madiun Regency, on Thursday (16/7), resulted in casualties.
Army Information Chief (Kadispenad) Brigadier General Donny Pramono stated that one soldier was killed and six others were injured in the incident.
“Initial reports indicate the incident occurred while personnel were conducting inspections and maintenance in one of the warehouses. One person died, four were seriously injured, and two sustained minor injuries,” Donny said during a press conference.
Donny expressed his condolences for the loss of life in the explosion at the TNI ammunition depot in Madiun.
“We offer our deepest condolences for the soldier who fell in the line of duty and pray for the recovery of all the victims undergoing treatment,” he said.
The explosion was earlier reported at the Army Central Ammunition Depot (Gupusmu) II of the Army Equipment Centre (Puspalad) on the Madiun-Surabaya highway, Saradan District, Madiun Regency, on Thursday (16/7).
According to information gathered, several victims were taken to Caruban Regional General Hospital in Madiun suspected to be as a result of the explosion.
Head of Information for Korem 081/DSJ Madiun, Captain Inf Ismail, confirmed the explosion but stated he was not authorised to comment further.
“Gupusmu is under Puspalad, not under Korem,” Ismail said.
