The head of the Special Development Control and Investigation Agency (Bappisus), Aris Marsudiyanto, has clarified the Alert Level 1 status established by TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto. According to him, this constitutes a routine standard operating procedure ahead of Lebaran.

“This is a routine SOP. To maintain conduciveness for our entire population in conducting their holiday, Lebaran that is. To return to their respective hometowns,” Aris told reporters at the Presidential Palace Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.

Aris also responded to a viral video of TNI vehicle convoys departing from the National Monument, which was linked to the Alert Level 1 status. He assessed this as routine security operations ahead of Lebaran to protect the public.

“Well, it is approaching Lebaran, isn’t it? As Lebaran approaches, it is customary for security forces to protect the public, so that their journey to their respective hometowns proceeds safely. The infrastructure has also been properly prepared with the Minister,” he said.

TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto previously issued a telegram to his personnel ordering them to implement Alert Level 1 to anticipate developments in the domestic situation resulting from the impact of conflict in the Middle East region. The TNI stated that this measure was undertaken in accordance with the TNI’s primary duties.

The order was contained in TNI Commander Telegram Number TR/283/2026, signed by the TNI Commander’s Operations Assistant, Lieutenant General Bobby Rinal Makmun on 1 March 2026.

TNI Spokesperson Brigadier General Aulia Dwi Nasrullah explained that the implementation of Alert Level 1 is a TNI duty mandated by the TNI Law. He stated that the protection in question concerns threats to the nation and state.

“One of the TNI’s primary duties is to protect the entire nation and all of Indonesian territory from threats and disturbances to the integrity of the nation and state,” said Brigadier General Aulia when contacted on Sunday, 8 March.
