JAKARTA - Operations by the TNI AL Marine Corps in Papua are claimed to have successfully neutralised 10 members of the Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM) and captured 56 bases in the Maybrat area, Southwest Papua.

In a press release from the Dispen Korps Marinir TNI AL, the operation was carried out by the Satgas Pamtas RI–PNG Mobile Yonif 10 Marinir “GOBANG IV”, operating in Kampung Imsun and Kampung Kisor.

“In the operation, the Task Force succeeded in capturing 56 OPM bases and neutralising 10 OPM personnel, further strengthening security stability and demonstrating TNI dominance in the area,” stated Dispen Kormar TNI AL, quoted on Wednesday (6/5/2026).

In addition to operations in Maybrat, the Satgas Yonif 4 Marinir “GOBANG V”, tasked in Paniai and Nabire, Central Papua, was also reported to have been involved in several firefights.

In one incident in Kampung Topo, Uwapa District, troops seized several weapons, including rifles and pistols, as well as ammunition and attributes associated with the separatist group.

Besides combat operations, the TNI AL also claims to be implementing a territorial approach during the assignment, such as free medical treatments and social assistance in several villages.

“This success is proof that the fighting Marines not only possess superior combat capabilities but are also able to carry out a humane territorial approach,” said Ali.

“I highly appreciate the dedication and loyalty shown in the field of duty. Continue to be Marines who make the nation and country proud,” he emphasised again.
