TNI AD Clarifies Viral Video of Brigadier General's Argument with Marathon Marshal

A video showing Commander of Korem 072/Pamungkas Brigadier General Yuniar Dwi Hantono engaged in an argument with a marshal during a marathon event in Yogyakarta went viral on social media. The footage sparked widespread public reaction and online discussion, particularly after narratives emerged suggesting the general’s aide was on the race track without wearing an official participant number or BIB. Many netizens praised the marshal’s firmness in carrying out their duty to maintain order on the running route.

Responding to the ensuing polemic, the Indonesian Army provided an explanation regarding the incident. Head of the Army Information Service Brigadier General Donny Pramono stated that the incident originated from a misunderstanding that occurred during the race. According to Donny, the aide accompanying Brigadier General Yuniar was actually registered as an official participant and had been taking part in the activity from the start with a valid race number. ‘Based on the explanation obtained, the aide accompanying the Danrem also participated in the activity from the beginning using a participant number (BIB). However, during the execution, it is suspected that the participant number came off while on the crowded track, causing a misunderstanding during the inspection by the officer,’ he said on Monday.

Donny explained that Brigadier General Yuniar did not attend the event alone. The Danrem 072/Pamungkas was present with his family and aide as general participants who were officially registered. The Army stated that all participants in the activity, including Brigadier General Yuniar, his wife, his child, and his aide, used general admission tickets like any other participants. After the video gained public attention, the event organiser reportedly communicated and clarified the matter directly with Brigadier General Yuniar. As a result, all parties understood that the issue on the track was a technical matter that was not prolonged. ‘We appreciate the professionalism of the committee and officers who carried out their duties according to procedure to maintain order during the event, while also appreciating the organiser’s swift action in clarifying so that there was no prolonged misunderstanding in the public sphere,’ he said. The Army confirmed that there are no further issues between Korem 072/Pamungkas and the event organiser, and the relationship between both parties remains positive following the clarification.
