TNGR reminds tourists to obey climbing rules on Mount Rinjani

The Mount Rinjani National Park Office (TNGR) in West Nusa Tenggara has reminded tourists to comply with climbing regulations on Mount Rinjani, Lombok, for the sake of safety and the preservation of the area. “Before you step forward, understand the important rules for your own safety and the conservation of the Mount Rinjani area,” said Head of TNGR West Nusa Tenggara Budy Kurniawan in Mataram on Friday. He stated that climbing in the Rinjani natural tourism area is not just about reaching a destination, but involves a conservation zone with challenging terrain. Therefore, visitors or tourists must adhere to mandatory provisions for climbers, including a minimum of two people per group. “This means do not climb alone, because a climbing partner is very important for looking after each other during emergency situations,” he said. Furthermore, visitors are required to use an experienced guide or porter. Because the terrain in the Mount Rinjani area has unique characteristics, a guide will help understand the routes and safety procedures. Additionally, climbers are expected to have previous experience climbing other mountains, and any climber under 17 years of age must be accompanied and bring a permission letter from a parent or guardian. “Climbing equipment is also mandatory. Reduce plastic waste by bringing reusable food and drink containers,” he said. He explained that these rules are not intended to restrict the movement of tourists wishing to see the natural beauty of Mount Rinjani, but rather to protect it and keep Rinjani Lombok pristine for future generations. “The climbing SOP must be obeyed for mutual safety and for the sake of future generations,” he said. The TNGR Office also urged the public and visitors to continue complying with the rules to prevent undesirable incidents.
