East Lombok (ANTARA) - A joint team from the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) has once again carried out an evacuation of a climber from Riau who suffered a broken leg after falling in the Mount Rinjani area in Lombok during a climb.

“The climber, named Karimus, had to be evacuated due to a broken leg, after falling near the summit of Mount Rinjani,” said the Head of the Sembalun Police, East Lombok Police, Iptu Lalu Subadri in East Lombok, NTB, Saturday.

He said the victim was reported to have fallen about 7 meters from where he was resting on Friday (May 15). As a result of the incident, the victim suffered a broken leg and was unable to walk.

“The victim fell while trying to reach the summit, his position was about 20-30 meters from Pos Pelawangan,” he said.

After receiving information, a joint team from TNGR, the Sembalun Police, and the Edelweis Medical Help Center (EMHC) immediately went up to carry out the evacuation.

“The victim’s condition is stable and has been given logistical assistance and initial treatment at the location,” he said.

He said the rescue team is still working to evacuate the victim with a broken leg from the Pelawangan Sembalun area to the nearest medical facility.

“We urge tourists who are climbing to remain cautious, so that no unwanted incidents occur,” he said.

Previously, a joint team from the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) also carried out an evacuation of a climber named Endang Subarna (48) from West Java who was reported to have died in the Mount Rinjani area.

“After receiving information, officers immediately went to the location to provide assistance and evacuate the victim,” said the Head of TNGR, Budy Kurniawan in Mataram, Friday.

He said the incident experienced by the victim began when he was climbing with a group through the Kandang Sapi Sembalun climbing gate accompanied by a porter and tour organizer, on Thursday (May 14) morning.

Furthermore, the victim and the group arrived at post 4 and the climbing group rested, because the weather was rainy and accompanied by 2 guides to take shelter.

Around 4:00 p.m., the rain subsided, then the group continued their journey to Pelawangan Sembalun.

“However, about 15 minutes of walking, the victim opened his raincoat and continued walking a few steps, the victim lowered his head, fell unconscious on the climbing path,” he said.

Receiving information about an accident involving a visitor at post 4 on the Sembalun climbing path, officers coordinated with the evacuation team (EMHC).

The evacuation process was carried out quickly by the joint team to ensure that the victim immediately received medical treatment, but the victim could not be saved or died.

“After being declared dead, the victim’s body was immediately taken down by the rescue team to the Sembalun Health Center, before being referred to the Selong Regional Hospital,” he said.
