Mataram (ANTARA) - A joint team from the Mount Rinjani National Park (TNGR) carried out the evacuation of a climber named Endang Subarna (48) from West Java who was reported to have died in the Mount Rinjani area, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) while hiking.

“After receiving information, officers immediately went to the location to provide assistance and evacuate the victim,” said the Head of TNGR NTB, Budy Kurniawan in Mataram, Friday.

He said the incident experienced by the victim began when he was hiking with a group through the Sembalun hiking route accompanied by a porter and tour organiser, on Thursday (14/5) morning.

Furthermore, the victim and his group arrived at post 4 and the hiking group rested because the weather was rainy and they were accompanied by 2 guides to take shelter.

“However, about 15 minutes of walking, the victim opened his raincoat and continued walking a few steps, the victim lowered his head, fell unconscious on the hiking trail,” he said.

By the guide who accompanied the victim, initial treatment was carried out, such as trying to revive him by calling the victim’s name, but there was no response.

“It turned out that there was a doctor on the trail who was hiking, then on the advice of the doctor, assistance was given to the victim but the victim was still unconscious,” he said.

Furthermore, the EMHC team immediately contacted the guide who was with the victim to carry out an assessment and the victim experienced breathing problems and the RJP (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) process was carried out by officers with direction from the EMHC medical team.

The evacuation process was carried out quickly by the joint team to ensure the victim immediately received medical treatment, but the victim could not be saved or died.

“After being declared dead, the victim’s body was immediately taken down by the rescue team to the Sembalun Health Center, before being referred to the Selong Regional General Hospital,” he said.
