Gunung Gede Pangrango National Park (TNGGP) has closed hiking trails for two days on 27-28 May 2026, with strict monitoring along all routes to prevent illegal climbers.

TNGGP spokesperson Agus Deni in Cianjur, West Java, stated on Wednesday that the closure is to support Eid al-Adha celebrations, with dozens of officers deployed at three entrance points and community involvement in surveillance.

The closure, he said, is based on TNGGP Circular No. 8 of 2026. The hiking ban is in place from 27 to 28 May 2026 to ensure security, order, and comfort in the conservation area.

“To prevent illegal climbers during the closure, we have officers on standby at every trail. Those who defy the rules will be detained and penalised,” he said.

Climbers are advised to register online once hiking resumes and to comply with regulations while preserving the national park’s ecosystem.

“We stress that climbers must follow the rules and use the official TNGGP online system for registration; do not be tempted by individuals who claim to bypass the closure,” he added.

He noted that over 100 people have been strictly penalised, including administrative sanctions and blacklisting from climbing national parks across Indonesia for two to five years.
