Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (TNBTS) states that the closure of the Gunung Bromo area from tourism activities on 6-12 April 2026 is an effort to restore the ecosystem and improve the quality of tourism services.

“Indeed, Bromo will be closed starting 6 April at 06.00 WIB until 12 April at 10.00 WIB. Over the next week, we are preparing various measures as a momentum for ecosystem recovery, while also enhancing tourism service quality,” said TNBTS Public Relations Head Endrip Wahyutama in Malang, East Java, on Monday.

The TNBTS states that the closure of the Gunung Bromo area serves as a reinforcement of the commitment to more sustainable area management following the long Lebaran holiday period in 2026.

During the Lebaran holiday, from 21-24 March 2026, Gunung Bromo was visited by 24,671 tourists.

Cumulatively in March 2026, the tourism destination spanning the regions of Probolinggo Regency, Pasuruan, Lumajang, and Malang Regency attracted 79,223 tourists.

The number of tourist visits in March was higher compared to the January and February 2026 periods.

“The total tourist visits in January were 65,891. Meanwhile, in February there were 45,738 tourists,” he said.

During the closure schedule, the authority will carry out area clean-up activities post-long holiday and socialisation of the Tengger Caldera Ring Trail (JLKT) on 6 April 2026.

On 7 April and 9 April 2026, training will be held for jeep and horse transport service providers in Probolinggo Regency, East Java.

Then, on 8 April, TNBTS will organise capacity enhancement for tourism transport service providers in Malang Regency and community service activities.

Subsequently, on 13 April 2026, the authority will conduct the groundbreaking for the JLKT arrangement.

Endrip hopes that these measures will provide benefits to the ecosystem and the communities living around the Gunung Bromo area.

“Thus, in the future, Bromo will remain preserved and provide sustainable benefits for all,” Endrip stated.
