Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has restricted tourist access to the Penanjakan area of Mount Bromo from Pasuruan Regency, East Java, following a fire at the site.

TNBTS head Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha said in an official statement received in Malang on Sunday that the restriction had taken effect on Saturday (17 October) at 9.30 pm local time and would remain in force until further notice.

“As the fire in the Penanjakan area has yet to be brought under control, tourist visits are permitted only as far as the Lemah Pasar area,” Rudi said.

The policy is set out in TNBTS announcement No. PG.29/T.8/TU/KSA.04.01/B/10/2026 on restricting access to Penanjakan, issued on the day the fire broke out.

The restriction applies not only to tourists but also to tourism service providers and local residents.

The measure is intended to prevent incidents that could put public safety at risk, as the fire is located in the Penanjakan area, according to TNBTS.

Rudi urged all parties to comply with the temporary restrictions on tourist visits and other activities in Penanjakan.

He also reminded tourists and residents to protect the area by avoiding activities that could trigger fires. “Please continue to comply with the existing rules,” he said.

According to data from TNBTS, a total of 1,669 tourists visited the Mount Bromo area on 17 October 2026.

That figure comprised 1,612 domestic visitors, all Indonesian citizens, and 57 international visitors.
