TNBTS reports Bromo area fires spreading to Jemplang, Malang
Malang, East Java - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has stated that the fire incident in the Mount Bromo area, which began in the Pengol Savanna, Probolinggo Regency, has expanded into the Jemplang region, Malang Regency, East Java.
“Yes, from the video I sent, all the locations are in Jemplang,” said Endrip Wahyutama, Public Relations Officer for TNBTS, as confirmed via WhatsApp on Saturday.
He noted that the fire points have been recorded spreading into the Jemplang area since Saturday afternoon.
Endrip stated that the expansion of the fire location was triggered by wind conditions in the Mount Bromo area.
“Yes, it is because of the wind,” he said.
The spreading fire in the Mount Bromo area was captured by amateur video taken from the Bromo Hillside direction in Jemplang. In the footage, plumes of grey smoke can be seen rising and covering the location.
The incident caused panic among the person filming and several others who were present in the Bromo Hillside area at the time.
The expansion of the fire from the Pengol Savanna in Probolinggo Regency towards Jemplang in Malang Regency has necessitated the TNBTS authorities to completely shut down all tourism activities in Mount Bromo.
This closure of tourism activities is stipulated in Announcement Letter Number: PG.23/T.8/TU/HMS.01.07/B/09/2026 regarding the Total Closure of the Mount Bromo Tourism Area from Tourism Activities, issued by the TNBTS authorities.
The closed access routes to Bromo include four regions: Jemplang in Malang Regency, Cemoro Lawang in Probolinggo Regency, Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency.
This is the second time a fire has occurred within the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area within a single month. The first fire occurred on Monday (3/8), originating in the Bantengan Block area and subsequently spreading to Watu Gede and the Pasuruan region. The second fire began in the Pengol Savanna area, within the administrative territory of Probolinggo Regency, on Thursday (10/9).
