Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority (TNBTS) will reopen the Mount Semeru hiking trail as of 24 April 2026, after it was previously closed since 19 November 2025.
The Head of TNBTS, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, in Malang, East Java, on Thursday, stated that the reopening of the hiking trail to Java’s highest mountain was a decision reached after multi-stakeholder coordination.
“Activities on the Mount Semeru hiking trail will reopen starting 24 April 2026,” said Rudi.
The reopening of the Mount Semeru hiking trail is outlined in the Announcement Letter from TNBTS Number: PG.6/T.8/TU/KSA.04.01/B/04/2026, issued on Wednesday (22/4).
With this restriction, hikers are not permitted to engage in activities up to the summit area of the mountain.
Rudi explained that the public wishing to hike Semeru must purchase tickets online through the official TNBTS website at http://bromotenggersemeru.id two days before the hiking date.
The quota for hiking opened by the authority is 200 people per day, with a duration of two days and one night.
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park Authority urges all prospective hikers to follow the updated standard operating procedures (SOP) for hiking Mount Semeru, such as entering from the official route at Ranu Pani and carrying complete administrative documents.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer of TNBTS, Endrip Wahyutama, added that to anticipate hikers going up to the summit area, they are requiring the use of local hiking guides.
“This is an effort to anticipate hikers going to the summit,” said Endrip.
