TNBTS confirms evacuated Semeru climbers have arrived in Ranupani
The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has confirmed that 170 climbers of Mount Semeru, East Java, who were evacuated from the climbing route due to a forest fire in the Ranu Kembang Block, have arrived at Ranupani Village, Senduro, Lumajang Regency, on Thursday.
TNBTS Public Relations Officer Endrip Wahyutama stated via WhatsApp that the climbers had been in Ranupani Village since 2.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, in safe condition, and had returned to their respective homes.
“For the latest development, all climbers who were previously on the climbing route have arrived back in Ranupani at around 2.30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, and have all gone home. Yes, their condition is safe,” said Endrip in a short message received by ANTARA in Malang City, East Java.
He stated that the evacuation process proceeded safely and in an orderly manner. The climbers were also in good condition.
He explained that the hundreds of climbers descended from Mount Semeru accompanied by Registered Mount Semeru Climbing Guides (PPGST).
“There were also TNBTS officers on standby along the evacuation route,” he said.
Endrip also conveyed that efforts to extinguish the forest fire in the Ranu Kembang Block are still ongoing, targeting the Panggonan Cilik Block location.
Firefighting is being carried out by a joint team consisting of the Fire Care Community (MPA), savers, PPGST, porters, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), and the Indonesian National Police (Polri).
“Conditions on the ground are quite challenging due to wind and steep terrain,” he said.
Earlier today, TNBTS confirmed that the 170 climbers evacuated from Mount Semeru, East Java, due to the forest fire in the Ranu Kembang Block were in safe condition.
On Wednesday (27/8), TNBTS decided to completely close all climbing routes on Mount Semeru. The measure was taken following the forest fire in the Ranu Kembang Block area.
The decision to close the Mount Semeru climbing routes was officially announced by TNBTS through Announcement Letter Number: PG.20/T.8/TU/HMS.01.07/B/08/2026, issued yesterday.
This policy was adopted to support the smooth running of the fire control process and the evacuation of visitors still within the Semeru area, while prioritising safety and security.
The relevant agency stated that the forest area where the fire broke out is located around the Mount Semeru climbing route.
The closure of Mount Semeru climbing routes is in effect until an unspecified time.
