TNBTS Closes Some Bromo Access Points Following Forest Fire in Batengan Block

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has closed some tourist access points to Mount Bromo from the Jemplang and Coban Trisula entrances in Malang Regency, as well as Senduro in Lumajang Regency, due to a forest fire in the Bantengan Block.

Head of the TNBTS Centre, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, stated in Malang, East Java, on Monday that the decision to close several access routes to Bromo was made to maximise firefighting efforts and ensure the safety of all tourists. The closure of the three access points took effect at 22.00 WIB today and will remain in place until an unspecified time.

Based on initial information received by the TNBTS Centre, the forest fire in the Bantengan Block started around 17.00 WIB. Rudi said the public can still access the Mount Bromo area through several other entry points, namely from Cemoro Lawang in Probolinggo Regency and Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency. However, visitors are only permitted to access the tourist area up to the Sea of Sand and are not allowed to move towards the Savana zone.

He urged all members of the public, tourists, and tourism service providers to protect the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park area by carrying out activities in accordance with applicable regulations. “Pay attention to the use of fire for the safety, security and comfort of all,” he said.

Meanwhile, TNBTS Centre Public Relations officer Endrip Wahyutama said it was not yet possible to confirm the extent of the area burned in the Bantengan Block. “There is no information yet, currently the team is focusing on the extinguishing process. After the fire is successfully extinguished and conditions are declared safe, a team will conduct measurements to determine the affected area,” said Endrip.
