TNBTS Closes All Access to Mount Bromo to Facilitate Firefighting Efforts

The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) has completely closed all tourist access to Mount Bromo to facilitate firefighting efforts in the area, effective Saturday at 10 p.m. Western Indonesia Time.

Head of the TNBTS Central Office Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, in an official statement received in Malang, East Java, said the closure decision was based on the latest developments on the ground, where flames in the Bromo Caldera area are spreading increasingly wider.

“In order to ensure the effectiveness of firefighting efforts, visits to Bromo from all entry points are closed for tourism,” Rudi said.

Tourist access to Mount Bromo comprises five entry points spread across four regions: Cemorolawang in Probolinggo Regency, Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency.

Beyond firefighting effectiveness, the closure also takes into account the safety and security of all visitors.

“(The closure) is until an unspecified time limit,” he said.

In addition, tourists are being offered the option of a refund by the TNBTS Central Office.

Visitors will be asked to first complete a form provided on the online booking page.

Rudi urged all tourism service operators to temporarily refrain from conducting any activities within the TNBTS area.

“This is for the safety, security, and collective well-being of everyone,” he said.

Based on a video uploaded by the TNBTS Central Office on its official Instagram page, flames can be seen burning on a cliff area near the Tengger Caldera Ring Road (JLKT).

In the video, an officer said the fire has also spread towards Mount Kursi, which is still located within the TNBTS area.
