TNBTS: 2,056 Tourists Request Refunds After Bromo Closure

Malang, East Java (ANTARA) - The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Centre stated that 2,056 tourists have requested refunds for their Mount Bromo visit tickets following the total closure of the area due to the expanding forest and land fires in recent days.

TNBTS Public Relations Officer Endrip Wahyutama in Malang, East Java, on Wednesday, said the thousands of tourists applying for ticket refunds consisted of 1,944 domestic tourists and 112 foreign nationals, recorded from Sunday (9 August) to Wednesday (12 August).

“The number of tourists who have processed refunds for Indonesian citizens is 1,944 people and 112 foreign nationals,” Endrip said.

In addition to refunds, 32 domestic tourists have requested a rescheduling of their visit to Mount Bromo. Meanwhile, no foreign tourists have opted for the rescheduling process.

Overall, the number of tourists planning to visit the Mount Bromo area during the period of 9-15 August reached 3,062 people, comprising 2,671 domestic tourists and 391 foreign nationals.

Endrip noted that 974 tourists have not yet applied for a refund of their visit ticket fees. “For domestic tourists who have not yet applied for a refund, there are 695 people, while for foreign tourists there are 279 people,” he stated.

The TNBTS Centre imposed a total closure of all entrance gates to the Mount Bromo area, namely Cemorolawang in Probolinggo Regency, Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency, on Saturday (8 August) at 22:00 Western Indonesian Time.

This was because the fire sweeping through the Mount Bromo area had spread across the Tengger Caldera Ring Road (JLKT) from the direction of Jantur Hill and was burning the savanna area.

The measure was taken as a follow-up to the developing situation on the ground to streamline firefighting efforts, while also considering the security and safety of visitors to the tourist area.
