TMII Square inaugurated

JAKARTA: East Jakarta Mayor Koesnan Abdul Halim inaugurated on Wednesday the construction of a new square called Tamini Square close to the complex of the Indonesia in Miniature Park (TMII) in Pondok Gede, East Jakarta.

The square, comprising a shopping mall and trade center, would be operational in mid-2006.

The six-floor square, to be built on a three-hectare site by PT Kencana Graha Lestari, would accommodate 2,000 kiosks and shops.

Koesnan has told the developer to recruit local residents as security guards, parking attendants and janitors.

"Hopefully, the presence of the Tamini Square will help reduce the high level of unemployment in East Jakarta that stands at more than 60,000 people," Koesnan said.--JP
