An unregulated level crossing on Jalan Ampera, the site where a green taxi was clamped to a train before the fatal Argo Bromo Anggrek and KRL collision at Bekasi Timur Station on Saturday (2/5) afternoon, is now guarded by official personnel. detikcom reported on Saturday (2/5) that a joint team of personnel from the Transportation Agency to the TNI has been deployed to secure both sides of the crossing to regulate vehicle traffic flow. Security at the site has been strengthened with the installation of long manual iron barriers to close the entire road when a train passes. Although installed, the operation of these barriers is still manual by on-site personnel due to their non-automatic status. In addition to security, access roads around the location, which were previously damaged, have been monitored and resurfaced smoothly, allowing vehicles to pass more smoothly. PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI) Daop 1 Jakarta confirmed that the installation of temporary crossing gates at JPL 86 has been carried out since 29 April 2025 as a proactive measure for safety. KAI Daop 1 Jakarta’s Public Relations Manager, Franoto Wibowo, emphasised that this facility is an initial effort to protect train journeys and road users. “The installation of these temporary crossing gates is an initial step as an effort to improve the safety of train journeys and road users,” Franoto stated in his official remarks. Franoto also underlined that the iron barriers are temporary and not official crossing gates. In the future, guarding these barriers will be carried out through community self-reliance in coordination with the local sub-district. However, in the absence of guards, the barriers must remain in the closed position for security reasons. Coordination has also been conducted with the Bekasi City Transportation Agency and Duren Jaya Sub-district. KAI assures that it will continue to urge central and local governments to seek permanent solutions, including the possibility of building flyovers or underpasses at the location. On the other hand, the public is still urged to remain alert and stop briefly to ensure safe conditions before crossing railway tracks. The guarding was implemented after 16 people died and 90 others were injured in the accident involving the Argo Bromo Anggrek train and KRL at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday (27/4) night. During the accident, a green taxi was stopped in the middle of the railway tracks not far from Bekasi Timur Station due to an electrical short circuit issue. The taxi was then clamped by a KRL travelling from Cikarang towards Jakarta. The KRL involved in the accident with the taxi then stopped in the middle of the tracks. On the other side, a KRL heading to Cikarang was stopped at Bekasi Timur Station due to the incident between the Jakarta-bound KRL and the taxi. It was this KRL stopped at Bekasi Timur Station that was subsequently hit by the Argo Bromo Anggrek train travelling from Jakarta.
