That was conveyed by Tito as he addressed the Forkopimda Coordination Meeting for Maluku and Nusa Tenggara, held in the Merumatta Ballroom Senggigi, Lombok, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), on Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

The event, themed ‘The Role of the Central Government in Realising Enhanced Synergy to Maintain Harmony, Security, and Public Order’, also served as a forum for coordination between the central government and the regional authorities.

Tito explained that the main agenda of the NTB event was actually an award presentation to high-performing regional governments in the Maluku and Nusa Tenggara area. However, based on an agreement with the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polkam), the forum was also used to strengthen Forkopimda coordination.

In his remarks, Tito highlighted three important matters that need to be strengthened at the regional level to maintain political and security stability.

First, he assessed that Forkopimda holds a strategic position because it brings together the leadership elements that have substantial authority in maintaining security and public order.

"I see there are three things in the region that are very important to maintain stability, politics, and security in the respective regions. The first is this Forkopimda, because it is a forum of all leaders who have power, including the Pangdam, Kapolda, Kajari, Kapolres, Kajati, Kabinda, which are highly influential," Tito said, in his remarks, Tuesday, 19 May 2026.

Second, Tito assessed that FKUB plays an important role in maintaining community harmony, especially in areas prone to religious issues. However, he acknowledged there are still constraints in the form of limited budget support in several regions.

"If [FKUB] moves, operates, and proactively visits areas that are prone to such issues, [regions] are usually calm. But if FKUB does not operate, it is like a fire brigade acting only after incidents," he explained.

Third, Tito urged regional governments to form and activate the Tim Terpadu Penanganan Konflik Sosial (TPKS). He noted that some regions have yet to form or optimise the team.

According to Tito, the formation of TPKS is a mandate of regulations, including Law Number 7 of 2012 on Handling Social Conflicts (as strengthened by Law Number 23 of 2014 on Regional Government and its implementing regulations).

He added that the team plays an important role in drafting the action plan for handling social conflicts, from prevention, to halting conflicts, to post-conflict recovery.

"The importance of forming a social-conflict handling team is also a mandate of Presidential Regulation (Perpres), there are implementing regulations (PP) as well, and there is also a law on social conflict handling," he said.

The coordination meeting was also attended by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, the Minister of Housing and Settlement (PKP) Maruarar Sirait, NTB Governor Lalu Muhammad Iqbal, NTT Governor Emanuel Melkiades Laka Lena, Maluku Governor Hendrik Lewerissa, North Maluku Governor Sherly Tjoanda, and the Forkopimda members from Maluku and Nusa Tenggara.
