Tito Urges Local Governments in North Sumatra with Minimal Disaster Impact to Send Funds to Aceh

Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian is urging several local governments in North Sumatra that were minimally affected by the disaster to channel part of their funds to regions in Aceh that suffered more severe damage. Tito stated that many areas were not impacted by the disaster but still received transfer funds to the regions.

This was conveyed by Tito during a working meeting of Commission II of the DPR at the Parliamentary Complex in Senayan, Jakarta, on Monday (13/4/2026). Tito mentioned that he had held an online coordination meeting with eight local governments in North Sumatra.

“I then had a Zoom meeting, urging the eight regions in North Sumatra that were slightly affected and two that were not affected at all, but received additional funds. This is what I’m pushing for: please, for humanitarian reasons,” said Tito.

“In the heavily affected areas in Aceh, which have no additional funds, they should be helped from North Sumatra which received a large amount but was not affected, or only minimally affected,” he continued.

He also gave examples of several areas in North Sumatra that received substantial budget allocations, such as Medan City with around Rp565 billion and Deli Serdang with around Rp493 billion. According to him, part of these funds can be channelled through inter-regional grant mechanisms.

“Simalungun was not affected, received Rp412 (billion), Rp30 billion for North Aceh which is heavily affected. Asahan was not greatly affected, there was a brief flood impact, Rp261 billion, Rp30 (billion) (for Aceh),” he said.

In addition, Tito mentioned other regions such as Serdang Bedagai, Labuhanbatu, and Pematangsiantar, which were not significantly affected, could contribute to helping impacted areas in Aceh like Gayo Lues and Bener Meriah.

“Help with Rp25 billion for Gayo Lues, Bener Meriah. We have communicated this. We have communicated and they are not opposed. They have made statements and will carry out the grant mechanism,” he added.

Tito said this step is solely to accelerate the handling of disaster impacts in Aceh. The central government, he said, hopes for support so that this policy can run optimally.

“This is what we conveyed to all the eight regional heads in North Sumatra, and also in Aceh, so that they carry out this grant mechanism. This is what we also report to request support from Commission II, purely for humanitarian reasons,” he concluded.
