Tito Reveals Prabowo's Attention to Handling Sumatra Disaster Survivors
Head of the Task Force for Accelerating Rehabilitation and Reconstruction (Kasatgas PRR) Post-Sumatra Disaster, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has conveyed President Prabowo Subianto’s significant attention to expediting the handling of survivors. Prabowo has also focused on rehabilitation and reconstruction following the floods and landslides in Aceh Province, North Sumatra (Sumut), and West Sumatra (Sumbar).
This was revealed by Tito after accompanying Prabowo in performing Eid al-Fitr prayers for 1447 H/2026 with affected communities at Masjid Darussalam in the temporary housing complex (huntara), Karang Baru, Aceh Tamiang, Aceh.
Tito explained that Prabowo had long intended to pray Eid al-Fitr with refugees in the disaster areas, as the President wished to share solidarity during the Lebaran celebration with disaster refugees in Sumatra.
“(Actually) we prepared several locations, but he chose a place with refugees, namely the mosque in the huntara built by Danantara. Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly,” said Tito in a written statement on Saturday (21/3/2026).
Tito stated that Prabowo’s presence among disaster survivors during the Lebaran moment is proof that Prabowo has not reduced his attention to the development of rehabilitation in the three affected areas, which are now showing significant progress in various indicators.
“This is his extraordinary attention at a very sacred moment in the month of Ramadan, and he performed Eid al-Fitr prayers together with refugees in Aceh Tamiang as a symbol,” said Tito.
According to Tito, Prabowo always wants to make time to be present with post-disaster survivors during important community celebrations, as Prabowo did when celebrating the 2026 New Year with post-disaster survivors in South Tapanuli Regency (Tapsel), Sumut.
On that occasion, Tito conveyed that Prabowo also gave appreciation to all cross-sectoral parties who have worked hard on rehabilitation and reconstruction in all sectors, so that the affected areas can recover in terms of physical infrastructure, electricity, fuel supply, and basic services such as health and education facilities.
In addition, the economic sector is marked by the revival of buying and selling activities in the markets.
“He (Prabowo) gave appreciation because it is approaching normality. We will continue to work to resolve some other issues, (such as) permanent roads, bridges, and river normalisation that we must address, education facilities also need to be fixed,” said Tito.
As a follow-up step, Tito said they will accelerate the relocation of the remaining refugees, which today consist of 26 households in evacuation tents in Aceh Tamiang, so they can soon occupy decent housing.
In addition, while completing basic infrastructure, the Satgas PRR will also accelerate the rehabilitation of damaged ponds and rice fields due to floods and landslides in several areas in Aceh, Sumut, to Sumbar.
“We will also work hard on the next process, namely huntap both in-situ by BNPB and communal complexes. I have held several meetings with the Minister of PKP,” said Tito.
“After Lebaran, we will execute it,” he added.
For information, Prabowo and Tito’s visit to Aceh Tamiang to perform Eid al-Fitr prayers with refugees was accompanied by the Head of the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) RI, Lieutenant General Suharyanto, Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, National Police Chief General (Pol) Listyo Sigit Prabowo, Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, and Aceh Governor Muzakir Manaf.
