The Head of the Accelerated Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for Sumatra, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, expressed his appreciation for the positive recovery progress in Bireuen Regency.

According to Tito, conditions are now far better compared to 29 November 2025, when a number of land access routes in the area were severed, causing logistics distribution to be severely disrupted.

“The government, under the directive of President Prabowo, deployed all resources to carry out repairs. I know that all electricity was down before. The internet was down,” Tito said in a statement on Saturday (21/2/2026).

He made the remarks whilst inspecting conditions and distributing aid to residents of Bireuen Regency at the Balee Panah Evacuation Post in Bireuen, Aceh, on Saturday (21/2).

Through hard work and collaboration among all parties, the results of post-disaster recovery are now becoming visible. This is marked by the increasing number of young people who have resumed using smartphones and other electronic devices. According to Tito, the restoration of these technological devices serves as a positive indicator, as the public has regained adequate access to information.

Furthermore, the government-initiated reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts have also successfully normalised the distribution of logistics, gas, and fuel. Tito stated that the government will continue working hard to drive full recovery in the disaster-affected areas.

On the occasion, Tito noted that lowland areas affected by the disaster in Aceh generally face the primary issue of disrupted activities due to mud. Another concern is the damage to residents’ homes.

The government is therefore continuing to coordinate and hold meetings to address these issues. He assured that the pace of post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction would be accelerated, particularly regarding repairs to schools, places of worship, and Islamic boarding schools (pesantren). He also urged all parties to be patient and await the results of the government’s efforts.

“I have been in Aceh Tamiang since the first day of fasting. I have deliberately spent this past week here because I want to convey a message. My presence here, meeting all of you directly, demonstrates that the central government is not standing idle. We will resolve the existing problems,” Tito concluded.

During the visit, Tito also distributed aid to the Bireuen community. The assistance included hundreds of worship supply packages, thousands of pieces of Muslim clothing for residents, and hundreds of jackets for both children and adults.

Also present at the event were Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah, Bireuen Regent Mukhlis, members of the Bireuen Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda), and other relevant officials.
