Tito Karnavian Distributes Aid to Banda Aceh Residents During Ramadan Visit
Interior Minister Muhammad Tito Karnavian, who also serves as Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Acceleration Task Force for the Sumatra Region, performed the dawn prayer in congregation at the Grand Baiturrahman Mosque in Banda Aceh, Aceh. The worship marked the conclusion of Tito's series of visits to disaster-affected areas in Aceh at the start of Ramadan.
In his address, Tito said he had long planned to observe the first day of fasting in Aceh Tamiang. The Ramadan tour, aside from strengthening ties with the community, was also used to review the latest progress on post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction in Aceh.
"While observing developments in Aceh Tamiang, I also broke fast together with displaced persons at temporary shelters. This was followed by Tarawih prayers and discussions with the regent and the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum on outstanding issues," Tito said in a written statement on Sunday (22/2/2026).
He explained that his visits to various areas in Aceh were a follow-up to the mandate given by President Prabowo Subianto in his capacity as Head of the Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force for the Sumatra Region. For him, the assignment is part of his devotion in helping affected communities.
Since disasters struck three provinces in Sumatra, Tito said he was immediately moved to inspect several areas in Aceh. He had not expected the impact to be so widespread, causing damage to various infrastructure. Besides Aceh, significant disaster impacts were also felt in North Sumatra and West Sumatra provinces.
"And after seeing the scale, I was appointed as Task Force Head, and I must help the disaster-affected areas," he explained.
Tito added that after several months, recovery progress is now becoming apparent across nearly all affected areas. This is marked by the restoration of electricity networks, the resumption of economic activity, and the reconnection of road and river access.
The government continues to optimise the acceleration of post-disaster reconstruction and rehabilitation. Tito called on all parties to be patient and to draw lessons from the events that have occurred.
"As the English say, every cloud has a silver lining. Every dark cloud surely has a bright silver layer behind it. That also gives a sign, a sign of light," he affirmed.
During the event, Tito symbolically handed over hundreds of worship supply packages to the community. The aid included Quran donations from President Prabowo to the people of Aceh.
Also present at the event were Aceh Deputy Governor Fadhlullah, Banda Aceh Mayor Illiza Sa'aduddin Djamal, members of the Banda Aceh Regional Leadership Coordination Forum, community leaders, and other relevant parties.
