Chairman of the Sumatra Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Task Force (Satgas), Tito Karnavian, stated that recovery efforts continue to show significant progress.

‘Government operations, districts that were previously non-functional are now all running. Subdistricts too,’ Tito said at a press conference held at the Senayan Parliament Complex in Jakarta on Monday (25 May 2026).

Tito added that some village offices are still operating from temporary shelters (huntara).

‘They are operational, but some remain in huntara, others in the village chief’s house, and so on,’ he said.

Tito added that the health sector is also in relatively good condition, though supporting facilities are still being optimised.

‘Hospitals, health facilities, and community health centres (puskesmas) are generally functioning well, but the Health Minister will further optimise them. Some auxiliary health centres remain problematic,’ Tito said.

During the meeting, the House of Representatives and the government approved a total budget of Rp 100.1 trillion for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction (rehab-rekon) in three provinces of Sumatra.

‘The total budget we proposed has been thankfully approved by the government, and we reported this to the DPR RI Task Force chaired by Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, which was also supported – amounting to Rp 100.166 trillion over three years,’ Tito Karnavian said on Monday.

‘Thankfully the budget has been approved by the government and we are coordinating to ensure that the technical work plans of ministries and agencies for rehabilitation and reconstruction proceed smoothly,’ Dasco said.
