Minister of Home Affairs Tito Karnavian has assured that the policy of working from home (WFH) every Friday for civil servants (ASN) will not be abused as an opportunity for a long weekend by public servants. Tito stated that his office is conducting strict surveillance of ASN movements by utilising geo-location technology. “We can ensure that ASN are truly carrying out work from home, and their mobile phones are required to be active so that their location can be known through geo-location,” Tito said, as written on Thursday (2/4). Tito explained that this policy was previously implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic. He also mentioned that through this system, the whereabouts of ASN can be monitored during working hours. In addition, Tito has asked them to remain on standby. He requested that ASN’s gadgets remain active so that work is not disrupted. ASN are obliged to respond to calls/messages within a maximum of five minutes during WFH. Tito has prepared several consequences for those who violate the rules. First, for those who do not respond to two calls, they will receive a verbal reprimand. Second, not responding within five minutes without reason will result in a written reprimand. Finally, for ASN who repeatedly make mistakes, they will face performance evaluations and administrative sanctions. “To ensure that ASN are truly carrying out WFH, and their mobile phones are required to be active, so that the location can be known through geo-location,” Tito said. The government is implementing a WFH work scheme for ASN one day a week every Friday to achieve energy efficiency in the face of global conflicts. However, there are some ASN positions at the provincial and district/city levels that are excluded from the WFH policy. There are 11 ASN positions at the provincial level that are exempted from the WFH policy. Two of them are the Middle High Leadership Position and the Primary High Leadership Position. Then, at the district/city level, there are 12 ASN positions that are exempted from the WFH policy. One of them is the sub-district head and village head/sub-village head.
