House Commission IV Chair Siti Hediati Soeharto, known as Titiek Soeharto, appeared delighted as she entered a chicken farm at the Open Prison on Nusakambangan Island, Cilacap, Central Java. She described harvesting chicken eggs as an enjoyable activity.

During the visit on Saturday (20/6/2026), Titiek requested an egg tray from prison staff. Holding the yellow tray in her left hand, she deftly collected eggs from the coop openings with her right hand. “Harvesting eggs in Nusakambangan is enjoyable,” she remarked.

She collected around eight eggs and inquired about the type of eggs produced at the farm. “Are these the omega ones?” she asked a prison officer. The officer replied, “The omega ones are in the coops marked with orange, Ma’am.”

Titiek then congratulated Minister of Immigration and Corrections Agus Andrianto for successfully cultivating laying hens. “Congratulations, Mr Minister,” she said to Minister Agus, who was accompanying her.

After viewing the chicken farm, Titiek inspected a duck farm in the same area. The laying poultry farms on Nusakambangan are spread across several prisons, namely the Open Prison, Permisan, and Nirbaya. The total poultry population includes 4,277 laying hens at the Open Prison, with daily egg harvests reaching 2,800 eggs. Meanwhile, the laying duck population on Nusakambangan totals 2,208 birds, producing 500 eggs per day. The eggs are sold to food vendors for prisons across Nusakambangan, the local Cilacap market, and the Aston Cilacap Hotel.

Titiek toured Nusakambangan accompanied by Minister Agus, Director General of Corrections Mashudi, and Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko.

The transformation of Nusakambangan is an idea championed by Minister Agus following his appointment by President Prabowo. During the transition of the Directorate General of Corrections from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights to the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Minister Agus received a report from the Audit Board of Indonesia regarding numerous ministry assets classified as idle land. Consequently, Minister Agus sought to revitalise these idle lands by building vocational training centres, providing inmates with self-development activities. The goal is for the skills acquired at these centres to serve as a foundation upon their release, preventing recidivism.

Training and skill development infrastructure already established on Nusakambangan includes a workshop for concrete blocks and paving blocks made from fly ash bottom ash material, a garment vocational centre, an organic fertiliser processing centre, eel farming, waste processing, tilapia, catfish and pomfret farming, vannamei shrimp ponds, cattle, sheep and poultry farms, a cigarette rolling vocational centre, a modified cassava flour production centre, and orchid cultivation.
