Tirta and Gerhana in chess wins

JAKARTA: Tirta Chandra and his female compatriot Gerhana
extended their winning streaks after beating their opponents in
their respective age categories at the ASEAN Junior Chess
Championships in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday.

Tirta, who held black, beat Aron Quang of Malaysia in the
seventh round of the Under-18 competition while Gerhana, who is
in the Under-8 field, eased past Alia Anim, also from Malaysia.

Both players have now collected 6 points each. Indonesia is
competing in the tournament with 11 boys and 4 girls. Also ending
the seventh round in triumph were Aris Haryanto (U-14), Nicholas
Sebastian (U-10), Olrenzo (U-8), Amalia Andrea (girls U-14) and
Irene Karisma (girls U-10).

Thursday also contested the eighth round matches in the
afternoon, but the results were not available. The final round
will be played on Friday.-- JP
