Tips to Avoid Overspending When Shopping for Eid Clothes
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - As Eid al-Fitr approaches, various shopping promotions with enticing discounts can make us forget our intention to save money. For clothing products, we often buy items that we don’t really need or already have in a similar style.
Sustainability Lead at PT Fast Retailing Indonesia (Uniqlo), Michelle Marietta Secoa, revealed that one way to control the urge to shop for clothes throughout the fasting month is to have timeless clothing items.
“Timeless products can be worn at any time. In fact, previous versions may still be wearable because they are still of good quality,” she said to Kompas.com in Central Jakarta, Wednesday (25/2/2026).
She explained that this concept prioritises classic and timeless designs. This is because the products are not made simply to follow current trends.
“They don’t follow trends, so the silhouettes are also generally common. They can be worn with old clothes (that you already own), but they give a new touch,” said Michelle.
“Actually, the basic need for clothing is just to protect our bodies. But now, clothing can be a form of identity, a way to express ourselves, and also our self-image,” she explained.
This shift in identity often makes our wardrobes full of various styles that are difficult to coordinate with each other.
In fact, the key to still looking stylish without having to add to the pile of new clothes lies in the ability to explore styles.
“The goal is not to constantly (shop for clothes) to follow trends, but to use the clothes we already have and mix and match them to create new looks,” she added.
Instead of throwing away clothes that are starting to feel boring, giving them a decorative touch can be a more sustainable solution.
“Maybe you feel that the look of the clothes is the same, but adding an accent can revive old clothes,” she said.
According to Michelle, being a wise consumer in the midst of the fast-changing fashion trends is not easy.
