Tips for the sanitation service
From Warta Kota
On April 21, many parts of Jakarta were flooded, causing long
and very serious traffic congestion. One of the reasons could be
that water formed pools in artery roads because the road-side
gutters, filled with soil, sand and garbage, failed to function
properly.
There are still many Jakarta residents that do not realize the
importance of dumping their garbage at designated places only.
Besides, sanitation workers frequently sweep leaves, plastic
wrappers, waste paper, sand and soil, into water holes because
they generally are not provided with proper equipment to make it
easy for them to carry this trash to a collection site.
Given this situation, I propose the following:
* Gutters at road sides should be regularly dredged.
* Sanitation workers should be told not to dump waste into water
holes and drains.
* Sanitation workers should be provided with easy-to-use
equipment so they can carry waste to a proper dump site.
