JAKARTA (JP): The following are tips which might be helpful to travelers to ensure they arrive at their destinations intact:

Tips for Idul Fitri Motorists

1. Make careful preparations prior to departure: itinerary and health checks, and arrange necessary documents.

2. Have your vehicle checked by a reputable repair shop before you leave the city.

3. Obtain a map which provides various information about Idul Fitri.

4. Listen to your radio to learn of any route changes, accidents, congestion, or natural catastrophes.

5. When making gas stops, have your tank totally filled. Choose only gas stations on the left side of the road in order to avoid traffic congestion.

6. Obey traffic laws and signs. Do not constantly change lanes.

7. Always wear a seat belt or helmet.

8. Take advantage of rest stops whenever in need of relaxation.

9. Report any accidents and other traffic problems immediately:

2. Check all electrical and gas appliances and disconnect before leaving. Make sure all flammables are safely stored.

3. For car passengers, do not hesitate to remind the person driving of the speed and the condition of the vehicle.
