Tips for Choosing Safe Takjil During Ramadan
Head of BBPOM Jakarta, Sofiyani Chandrawati, when contacted in Jakarta on Sunday, advised the public to ensure that takjil does not smell sour, musty, or pungent; to avoid food with excessively bright or unnatural-looking colours; and to choose vendors who maintain personal and environmental hygiene.
BBPOM Jakarta, she said, will again conduct takjil food surveillance during Ramadan as in previous years. However, Sofiyani did not yet specify the exact timing and locations.
Based on surveillance data from takjil centres and modern retail outlets in 2025, BBPOM DKI tested a total of 147 samples. The results showed that six samples, or 4.1 per cent, did not meet requirements, whilst 141 samples (95.9 per cent) passed inspection.
Last year’s takjil surveillance locations included Rawamangun Market, Bendungan Hilir Market, Akbar Kemayoran Mosque, Kebayoran Lama Market, Ranch Market Kebayoran Lama, Hari-Hari Supermarket, and Hypermart Puri Indah, with 11 samples tested. The takjil items examined included yellow noodles, mangkok cakes, and tofu.
Ahead of Ramadan, BBPOM DKI has intensified processed food surveillance targeting supermarkets, distributors, importers, and other food distribution facilities.
“We started from 18 February 2026,” said Sofiyani.
