JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The risk of conflict between road users tends to increase during Ramadan, especially during peak hours for commuting to and from work. Decreased physical condition combined with traffic congestion often triggers drivers’ emotions, making them more easily provoked.

The founder of Jakarta Defensive Driving Consulting (JDDC), Jusri Puluhu, said that the key to avoiding road conflicts during Ramadan is good trip management. According to him, drivers need to plan their travel time and route in advance.

“The most important thing is trip management for all of us, which is to plan the travel time and route,” said Jusri to Kompas.com recently.

“Perhaps by choosing the time, choosing the route to avoid traffic congestion, or leaving the office at certain times, we can reduce the traffic,” he added.

In addition, combining modes of transportation can also be a solution to reduce the potential for road conflicts. For example, travelling from Ciputat to an office in Menteng by driving to Lebak Bulus, then continuing the journey using the MRT and bus.

The longer the journey and the more often one encounters other road users, the higher the chance of violations and conflicts.

According to him, accidents and road conflicts are related to the opportunities influenced by distance travelled, negligence, and violations by road users. With proper trip management, drivers can reduce exposure to these risky situations.

“This combination of travel methods will reduce the volume of violations we encounter. This is called trip management,” said Jusri.
