Timor Timur map misleading
Timor Timur map misleading
From Kompas
On Aug. 23, 1994 we had a female visitor who works for a
foundation. She tried to sell some office articles such as an
emblem of the Civil Servants Organization (Korpri), Bhinneka
Tunggal Ika (Unity in Diversity), maps, books, etc.
The woman had made a long journey with her heavy load to come
to our office. Taking pity on her I bought one Timor Timur map
and one map of the Indonesian archipelago. When I looked at the
Timor Timur map carefully I found some topographical mistakes.
Copies of this map, which are printed and published by PT Karya
Pembina Swajaya, Surabaya, are already on sale in Dili's shops
and many offices have bought them. The errors include direction
of main roads, names of towns and mountains and the data is
incomplete. For example, the towns Venilale and Hato Berliku are
not on the map. Instead they printed Venilak and Hato Berkiu
which are non-existent. This is certainly misleading for those
who want to visit the province.
We hope that the company concerned would make the necessary
corrections.
