Timor-Leste Student Chooses UNM, Proof that Digital Business Campus is Increasingly Attracting International Attention
Universitas Nusa Mandiri (UNM) as a Digital Business Campus has once again affirmed its existence on the global stage by accepting an international student from Timor-Leste for the March 2026 academic period. The student named Maria Doutel Sarmento has officially joined through the undergraduate (S1) transfer programme in the Information Systems study programme, Faculty of Information Technology. Her presence is part of UNM’s efforts to strengthen international networks while creating an inclusive and multicultural academic environment. The acceptance of this international student reflects the increasing trust in the quality of higher education in Indonesia, particularly in the field of technology and digital business, which is UNM’s main focus. As a Digital Business Campus, UNM continues to offer an adaptive curriculum based on technology and aligned with global industry needs. Support for modern digital learning facilities also becomes an attraction for international students to continue their studies at UNM. UNM’s Vice Rector II for Non-Academic Affairs, Arif Hidayat, stated that the acceptance of foreign students is part of the campus internationalisation strategy. “The acceptance of students from Timor-Leste is a concrete step in expanding cross-country academic collaboration. We hope that the presence of international students can enrich cultural and intellectual perspectives in the university environment,” he said in a press release received on Friday (27/3/2026). The process of accepting international students at UNM is carried out through strict selection and document verification stages to ensure academic standards are maintained. During their study period, students will also receive guidance through cultural and academic orientation programmes, such as MOKA (Campus Orientation Period) and SERASI (Inspiration Seminar). “Both programmes are designed to help students adapt to the digital-based learning system at UNM and are scheduled to take place online on 28 March 2026,” he said. Internal university data, he added, shows a trend of increasing interest from international students in early 2026. This aligns with UNM’s vision of producing graduates who are not only competent in technology and business but also have global competitiveness. “Through the acceptance of students from Timor-Leste, UNM as a Digital Business Campus further strengthens its role as a higher education institution that is open to international collaboration, while encouraging the creation of an adaptive, collaborative, and globally oriented academic ecosystem,” he said.
