South Lampung (ANTARA) - A delegation from the Sprint programme in Timor-Leste visited several villages in South Lampung Regency, Lampung Province, to learn about strengthening community resilience in the face of climate change and disaster risks.

South Lampung Regency Secretary Supriyanto in Kalianda on Monday said the international delegation from Timor-Leste, through the Strengthening Partnership for Community Resilience in Indonesia and Timor-Leste (Sprint II) programme, came to learn directly about village-based community resilience strengthening in the region.

“South Lampung is a highly strategic regency. It has land, sea, and air routes all here. Hopefully, the atmosphere and experiences here can serve as a space for mutual learning and complementing each other,” Supriyanto stated.

“While in South Lampung, the delegation is scheduled to visit several assisted programme villages, namely Maja Village in Kalianda Subdistrict, Canti Village and Rajabasa Village in Rajabasa Subdistrict, as well as Kelawi Village in Bakauheni Subdistrict,” he said.

According to him, at those locations, the delegation will directly observe various community empowerment practices that have been implemented, ranging from village resilience strengthening, disaster risk reduction, to the development of community livelihoods based on local potentials.

He conveyed that this visit is an important momentum to strengthen cross-country cooperation while opening up joint learning spaces.

According to him, such cooperation not only strengthens inter-regional relations but also enriches the experiences of each country in building resilient and independent village communities.

“Good things from Timor-Leste, please share them with us, and likewise, good experiences from South Lampung hopefully can be taken as learning for Timor-Leste,” he said.

On that occasion, Supriyanto also introduced South Lampung as an area with a diverse society, consisting of various ethnic groups, religions, and cultures that live side by side harmoniously.

“South Lampung has a heterogeneous society, yet they can live in harmony and peace. This is an important part that we continue to maintain together,” he said.

He asked all regional apparatus to provide the best welcome to the international delegation as a manifestation of Indonesia’s hospitality.

“We must show the good things we have. Indonesia is known for its friendliness and politeness, so that must continue to be demonstrated to anyone,” he stated.

It is known that the Sprint II Programme is an international collaboration focused on strengthening coastal community resilience through sustainable village development in Indonesia and Timor-Leste, emphasising disaster risk reduction and strengthening local community economies.
