DILI, East Timor: Governor Abilio Jose Osorio Soares denied
allegations that the development of the province is carried out
because of pressures from other countries.

So that it can catch up with other provinces, Indonesia has
been developing East Timor since it became part of the country in
1976, he told a press conference on Monday.

He said the development brought about tremendous results
incomparable with that carried out during the 450 years of
Portuguese colonial rule.

"The Indonesian government won't bow to any pressure and it
means to develop East Timor like any other province," he said.

The governor stated that some countries continue to discredit
Indonesia with false allegations of East Timor being left
