Timeline of Train and Bus Accident in Bangkok, Eight People Dead

At least eight people died and 35 others were injured in a train, bus, and motorcycle accident in Bangkok, Thailand on Saturday (16/05/2026) afternoon.

Firefighters and rescue teams were deployed as flames engulfed the bus and nearby vehicles, Reuters reported on Saturday (16/05/2026).

According to police, 35 people in the car and motorcycle suffered injuries.

Officers provided first aid and transported them to the nearest hospital for emergency treatment. Meanwhile, two of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

The Makkasan police station received a report via the 199 emergency hotline at 3:42 p.m. local time.

The report mentioned a fire involving an air-conditioned bus number 206 on the Kasetsart University to Mega Bangna route, near the Airport Rail Link station on Asok-Din Daeng Road, Huai Khwang district.

The fire then engulfed the bus in minutes. Explosions were heard occasionally as firefighters struggled to put out the fire and eventually managed to control it.

Rescuers later found the bodies of eight passengers inside the bus.

A witness told reporters that before the incident, they noticed that the railway crossing gate appeared to be damaged.

A video uploaded online at the time of the collision appears to show the gate stuck in place.

Authorities are reviewing recordings of radio communications between the railway crossing operator and the train driver, following reports that the driver did not respond when informed that there were vehicles trapped on the tracks.

The Ministry of Transport, State Railway of Thailand, and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority (BMTA), which operates the bus, are currently monitoring the situation.

Chadchart, Deputy Minister of Transport Siripong Angkasakulkiat, and BMTA Director Kittikan Chomduang Jaruworapolkul were at the scene to oversee the response and monitor developments.
