An Indonesian hajj pilgrim from Jakarta, Muhammad Firdaus (72), was found dead in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. He had previously been reported missing. ‘Based on reports from the field and coordination with Saudi authorities, Mr Firdaus has been found deceased,’ said Moh Hasan Affandi, Head of the Public Relations Bureau at the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah of the Republic of Indonesia, on Friday (22 May), as reported by DetikHikmah. Earlier, the pilgrim, who belonged to Group Kloter 27 from the Jakarta-Pondok Gede Embarkation (JKG 27), had been reported missing since Friday (15 May) after leaving his hotel in Sector 9 in Makkah, Saudi Arabia. However, the family said Firdaus left without his mobile phone, Nusuk card, or any form of identification. This made the search process more difficult. The search involved several parties, including Hajj officers and local authorities. Hasan said that the Indonesian Hajj Mission Office (PPIH) then received reports of an unidentified body at a hospital in Mecca on Friday (22 May). After receiving the information, the Jeddah-based Pilgrims Protection Team (Linjam) of PPIH’s Makkah Working Area, together with Firdaus’s wife, Nafsiah Nawan, went to the hospital to identify him. After the verification, Nafsiah confirmed that the body was her husband, Muhammad Firdaus Ahlan. The news ended the search for Firdaus, which had previously drawn attention. PPIH Saudi Arabia also expressed condolences on the death of Muhammad Firdaus. ‘Innalillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. All of us in PPIH Saudi Arabia extend our deepest condolences on the passing of the late. May Allah grant mercy and forgiveness to the deceased, and grant patience to the family left behind,’ Hasan said. The government is also reportedly going to perform a badal haji for the late through Indonesian hajj officers. Hasan also expressed appreciation to the family, the Indonesian Consulate General in Jeddah (KJRI Jeddah), the search team, and the Indonesian public who offered prayers during the search.
