JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The collision incident between KA Argo Bromo Anggrek and an electric rail train (KRL) at Bekasi Timur Station on Monday evening (27/4/2026) left behind grief and panic.

The accident, which occurred around 20.55 WIB, involved a KRL train that was stationary and then rear-ended by a long-distance train.

Based on the initial timeline, the Commuter Line KRL was forced to stop after a disruption on the track, namely a taxi that had been hit at a level crossing near Bulak Kapal.

While the train was still halted, the KA Argo Bromo Anggrek on the Gambir–Surabaya Pasar Turi route sped along and collided with the rear of the KRL train. A hard impact was unavoidable.

The carriage section was reported to be crumpled, making the passenger evacuation process difficult.

The Minister of Transportation, Dudy Purwagandhi, expressed deep concern over the incident.

He emphasised that the initial handling focused on the safety of the victims.

“The Ministry of Transportation expresses its condolences over the incident involving two train services in the Bekasi Timur Station area on Monday,” said Dudy in his statement.

He assured that the evacuation process was carried out quickly, involving various parties on the ground.

He even went directly to the location to ensure the handling was optimal.

“The Ministry of Transportation ensures that evacuation is carried out quickly, prioritising the safety of the affected victims,” he continued.

As of this morning, the victim tally is still ongoing.

The Ministry of Transportation is also coordinating with various agencies, including rescue teams and operators, to ensure all processes run maximally.

“The counting of the number of victims is still ongoing. The Ministry of Transportation will continue to coordinate intensively with all relevant parties to ensure the evacuation process runs optimally in line with developments on the ground,” said Dudy.
